There's Nothing Like the Romantic Look of Victorian Flowers and Fruit

I find vintage art irresistible in general, but I particularly like Victorian flowers and fruit images. I love how colorful and romantic they look -- even the fruit! Perhaps it's the bold colors or the extensive details. Or maybe I was just born in the wrong century and therefore have a great appreciation for everything vintage. At any rate, I truly love these Victorian flower and fruit images.

Some of the clip art and border images below feature both fruit and flowers. I can think of a thousand uses for this vintage clip art. It would be perfect for vintage-themed weddings, birthday cards, blog posts, Web sites and fliers. You can also crop any of the images to create your own avatar to use for social media sites or blogs. And let's not forget all the crafting possibilities there are when you have such beautiful images to work with.

I recently made a birthday card with some Victorian flower artwork, and I must say, it came out nicely. I printed the design on photo paper (a good quality card stock would have worked just as well, if not better) and cut around the flowers with manicure scissors. I then used glitter glue to highlight some of the flowers and put Elmer's school glue gel on top of the glitter, which effectively encased the glitter in a clear, shellac-like finish. The effect was beautiful!

If you'd like to try this, here's a tip: apply all the glitter glue and glue gel before you glue the final art to the card. If you don't, it will be hard to keep the edges glued down because the top coat of glue has a tendency to curl. Another way to avoid that is to just print the art directly onto the card, so you don't have to cut the image. If you use this method, be sure to apply light coats of glitter glue and glue gel. If the coats are too heavy, your card could warp.

The use of these floral "gardens" existed well into the Victorian era, and helped to create the elaborate list of meanings to describe these beloved flowers.
