Free American Flag Clip Art
79I've heard people all over say they feel more proud of America and what it stands for since the inauguration, even though I'm sure there are some who disagree with that hopeful viewpoint. For many, though, there's a sense that big changes are coming and that we as American citizens have moved forward because we had the maturity to elect an African American president.
Personally, I think Barack Obama's presidency is more historic because of what's in his head and heart than because of the color of his skin. Although it's definitely a huge paradigm shift and a great move forward that he was elected, I hope that the focus on him being the first African American president will soon recede. And that's not because I shy away from the discussion of racial issues or that I think his status as the first Black president is insignificant; it's because I think at some point we have to move on from discussing race all the time if we want to heal old wounds.
Time will tell, but I hope that Barack Obama's leadership will help people who have been wounded by racial mistreatment to feel comforted and vindicated, making it easier for them to heal. I realize that's a big process and a tall order but I believe in some ways that already began with the tears of joy cried by many on Inauguration Day.

Thanks a lot. I need clip art.
Always great posts. Thanks!
Thank you for your vintage and contemporary clip art! I was surprised when I clicked on the link from your website and it brought me here. :)
I never enjoyed the term "we finally had the maturity to elect an African-American president," because it diminishes, in my view, the reason we should be electing presidents. We cannot in the same breath say "we have the maturity to elect a black president," and also "we should not base our judgement on the color of his skin."
There was a strong color dynamic in the campaign, and I think in the election as well. Quite a lot of us were able to see the disasterous policies that lie ahead for us, unfortunately he had a captivating aspect to him that allowed people to have their judgement clouded. It's like falling in love with someone only to learn they are not who we thought they were, and couldn't see it until the newness of it all wore off.
That said, I wish I could be positive about the event. I think the only reason Barack Obama was elected is because he was not Bush, and McCain just didn't resonate with the people.
Great hub altogether, though. I don't mean to diminish its overall quality on the merits.
Thanks very much for the clip art.
I want add that I have to agree with Springboard.
No matter how much we disagree with it, there have been very few places in history, very few times in history where color was not an issue, and it will never completely be a non-issue in this fallen world.
I wish that I could believe that this president (color of his skin having nothing to do with it) wanted to see America continue to grow. History will record the picture that we are watching develop.
There are many people of color who have done magnificent things in the sciences, the arts, in literature and day by day in their own homes. We haven't heard much about them because they did not promote the values that those who want to see our country destroyed want to promote. However, with a little research anyone can see the comparisons, particularly in their written works.
There are different kinds of people within every color group. I have lovely friends of all colors. I was amazed, though, at the number of black people (strangers) who made their antagonism toward me as a white person very evident during the last presidential race. They treated me as if I opposed them (or the candidate) based on color, and they knew nothing about my opinion on the matter. It didn't matter to them because they were racists. I'm not trying to open a can of worms with anyone, but this is the truth. My friends who are black were not that way at all. They also know that the issues are not about color.
Appreciate having access to this flag clipart and would like to link it to my Flag Day hub. Please let me know if you have any objection. Thanks!
