Free National Grandparents Day Cards, Wrapping Paper and Clip Art

Although Grandparents Day has been around since Marian McQuade initiated it in the 1970s, it hasn't really taken off like Mothers Day or Fathers Day. Even Jimmy Carter's official 1978 proclamation that said National Grandparents Day would be celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day hasn't made that many people sit up and take notice. It's a shame, because there's a wealth of experience and love to be had in the form of grandparents. That's why I created these National Grandparents Day cards, clip art images and wrapping paper / scrapbook papers. Perhaps their being available free will spur some people on to send some love to their elders. And for those who don't mind spending a little money to honor their grandparents, you can make a photo book that's professionally printed and bound for an affordable fee. It's a great way to celebrate your unique family history and make your grandparents feel special.

I wish Grandparents Day had been around when my grandfather was alive; I would have loved to honor him for all he did for me. I guess my love and respect for him bore fruit in another way, though, when I founded an organization to match senior citizens with homeless children in child care settings. The idea was that seniors had the time, patience, experience and training to be of great value in the lives of children who had been damaged by the homeless experience.

The organization was founded in Los Angeles right about the time people in that city had had just about enough of hearing about the homeless problem. I worked hard on it, along with a great bunch of people who stepped up to help, but between the public backlash against the homeless and the myriad insurance and political issues involved, the organization eventually folded. Fortunately, other homeless organizations were already established and more prepared to handle the ups and downs of that type of project, so they were able to pick up the ball and run with it. So the idea was implemented, and that's all that matters.

Anyway, the point of that little trip down Memory Lane is that grandparents have a lot to offer. And they don't even have to be your grandparents. In our fast-food, youth-oriented society, some people have a tendency to dismiss anyone with wrinkles as being somehow less valuable. In fact, it's the opposite. So if you're lucky enough to still have your grandparents or if you even happen to know a grandparent or two, give them some love on the first Sunday after Labor Day. They've earned it.

To help you honor them, I've created free "Happy Grandparents Day" clip art that can also be used as greeting cards or e-cards. There are also three wrapping paper designs that can also be used as scrapbook papers. The images are below, along with the instructions for downloading them.

Choose a thumbnail version of any of the National Grandparents Day cards, clip art and wrapping / scrapbook papers. When you click on one, it will appear larger.

IMPORTANT: Once you've chosen an image and see it larger, double-click on the larger image, which will make the best version of the art appear.

Then, if you use a Mac, control-click the image until you get a pop-up menu with an option to save the file. If you have a PC, right-click and save the artwork to your hard drive.

Note: The clip art images can also be used as greeting cards. For the best results, use pre-cut, pre-scored card stock you can get at a craft or stationary store, or from the Amazon links in this hub. Just download the image you want and print it on the front of the card. You can also use 8-1/2" x 11" card stock but you will have to cut the card down to size yourself.
