There’s no question that Twitter is the hottest social network right now – and chances are good it will be for a long while to come. That’s why customer relationship management (CRM) and marketing automation for Twitter can’t be ignored. There are many automatic Twitter software tools that can help with managing Twitter marketing campaigns for businesses, but it’s been my experience that TweetAdder is simply the best professional Twitter marketing tool around.

It’s all about the numbers, or is it?
There are a lot of opinions flying around at the moment about why Twitter is an important component of virtually any company's arsenal of CRM and marketing solutions. Opinions aside, the numbers tell a compelling story. According to a 2009 phone interview survey of 2,253 adults that were 18 and older conducted by Princeton Survey Research International, 19 percent of people who surf the Internet use Twitter or a similar service. This number is an 8 percent increase over a similar study conducted only five months before. A whopping 39 percent of Internet users that have four or more devices (cell phone, desktop computer, laptop computer, Kindle, etc.) to access the Internet use Twitter. Many of these power users own their own businesses or are responsible for customer service in companies large and small. For them, Twitter marketing has become the approach of choice to gain real-time access to their existing customers and to attract new ones.

TweetAdder marketing automation software is easy to use and it's actually fun

As compelling as these numbers are, success in professional Twitter marketing automation isn’t always about sheer volume. At the end of the day, the quality of your followers and how engaged they are with what you have to say is what makes or breaks Twitter’s effectiveness for marketing. If you just buy Twitter followers from a service, you may get bulk, but you probably won’t get results. Not only that, but you’ll probably drown in e-mails, as the process for getting others to follow you involves following them first and hoping they reciprocate.

Every time someone new follows you, an announcement e-mail is sent to you. And if that person sends you a separate “welcome” direct message, too, you have the potential for double messaging for each new follower. That wouldn’t be that bad if you could just direct the e-mails to the deleted box in your e-mail program and be done with them. But because some followers use verifications services, you really should review every e-mail to search for those that require verification before the follow can be initiated. Even after you’ve gone through this process, which could take weeks to months depending on how many followers you’ve bought, many people will unfollow you after a period of time anyway because they just aren't interested.

Let’s say you don’t believe what you just read above and bought 10,000 Twitter followers. Chances are most won’t be targeted to your niche because of the throw-it-at-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks approach associated with buying Twitter followers. This can even apply if you target them by keyword, by the way. Many times when you’re working in bulk, synonyms or words that have two meanings in keywords will be thrown into the mix, giving you a totally different set of followers than you expected.

How marketing automation can set your business apart on Twitter

Twitter tweets stream into the site all day and the more followers your followers have, the less chance there is that they’ll see your tweets. So that means your followers have to really want to see them. So how can you ensure that? There are two key components that have to be in place:

1. Your followers have to have signed on because they’re interested in what you have to say
You can’t just gather huge numbers of random followers and expect that any of them will be interested. It’s better to have fewer followers who are interested than tens of thousands of them who follow and then forget you.

2. Your tweets have to provide compelling benefits
Twitter users see constant streams of information every time they access their Twitter page, many of which are sales pitches for something or another. Just like commercials on TV, these get ignored unless there’s some real value to the viewer.

This powerful automated marketing solution even lets you shorten music files and upload them to Twitter

So how do you get followers that fulfill these two requirements? This is where TweetAdder comes in. It’s a powerful automated marketing software program you install on your computer that allows you to find tightly targeted Twitter followers at a pace that is not only in compliance with the Twitter terms of service, but it makes the process manageable for you. And as you gather followers, you can manage them, as well as the tweets you post for them to see every day.

Here are some of the compelling reasons I find TweetAdder automated marketing software useful:

Twitter follower generation: As explained above, the last thing you want to do is waste your time gathering hordes of random followers. TweetAdder allows you to search for carefully targeted followers in your niche using your choice of one the following criteria and follow them:

  • Search by keywords in profile data
  • Search by location
  • Search by followers of another user
  • Search users followed by another user
  • Search by multi-lingual keywords in tweets

If you’ve chosen wisely, many of them will follow you back. The system can be set to follow as many or as few as you want. My advice is to follow no more in one day than you could search for and follow manually. That means the process of gathering followers will take a while, but the results will be longer lasting. If you combine this with advertising your Twitter account on all your Web properties, you’ll get a nice mix of followers.

Twitter follower communication: TweetAdder allows you to respond to anyone who follows you with a pre-set message. I’ve found that if you make this message totally oriented toward some sort of benefit for the user, you’ll get a much higher follower rate.

Tweet management: It’s time-consuming to write live tweets all day long and then be available to post them. There are Web interfaces that will allow you to schedule tweets, but they’re usually slow and don’t have all the functionality you need to manage your content effectively. TweetAdder Twitter software allows you to upload a text file with pre-written tweets, with no coding necessary. Just put each tweet on its own line within the text file and TweetAdder will post them at the scheduled intervals you choose. You can also add an individual tweet to the list, right from the software interface.

The reason this feature is so important is that it helps you fulfill requirement #2 above: Your tweets have to provide compelling benefits. To keep your followers interested, you should have a combination of content designed exclusively to benefit your followers. This can include famous quotes, freebies, advice, statistics, celebrity and niche-specific retweets (aka, "RT"), all of which can be compiled in advance. Having the ability to automatically stream tweets all day sets you free, while also providing good content that your followers will find beneficial. Once you’ve gained the trust of your followers, you can then sprinkle in sales tweets at a rate of approximately one for every 10 or so benefit-oriented tweets.

Automate Twitter posts and other functions: You can set TweetAdder to perform automated functions that begin as soon as you log in every morning. These include posting automated tweets and replies, sending direct messages to people who have followed you, unfollowing people (you can configure a safe list so that any favorites will be protected) or following users who have followed you. Each feature has flexible options that allow you to configure it for your particular needs, including how quickly actions are taken, such as posting tweets or unfollowing. The system also automatically randomizes the exact time intervals between each task, so the posting will seem natural and not automated.

Statistics: The system has at-a-glance statistics that tell you how many followers have been added or lost per day, your follower-to-followed ratio, the number of users in your niche that are left to be followed and unfollowed and how many tweets are left on your list to post. The follower management section also displays the number of followers the system has followed and the conversion rate for those followers. You can also see the number of tweets TweetAdder posted for you and how many messages were sent.

Thanks for an informative hub. Good point about the numerous devices people now use. There's a lot of telephony-computer integration.

These are great tips. I completely agree that quality trumps quantity. Too many people aim just for a high follower count, as though a large number of bots and fellow marketers will somehow magically transform into conversions. The real benefit of twitter is allowing you to connect with your customers and build up a relationship that is valuable to both of you.

How much is the daily limit of adding Max users?! As it seems many users are now complaining that there Twitter accounts got suspended permanently. Please advice on hourly or daily limit to avoid suspension?!

I actually don't use that feature any more. But if I did I would add no more than 10 or 15 a day -- spread out over the course of the day. I would also add a different number every day, so it looks as random as possible.

The 10-15 a day is not a number I arrived at scientifically; I just think it approximates what could be done manually.

Truthfully, though, it's better to provide incentive on your Web properties for people to follow you rather than to automate the process. You'll get a better response rate that way. That's why I don't use that feature anymore. Not only does Twitter not like it, but people who actually choose to follow you based on what you have to offer will give you much better results. Try posting a note under your Twitter button/link telling people that you'll follow them back if they follow you. And then prepare to be patient.

Best of luck. :-)

Hi Mohamed. TweetAdder just stopped using the Twitter API with their latest release a few days ago. Now all tweets posted through it look like they were done directly within Twitter.
