Having a Halloween party? These free printable Halloween party invitations are just scary enough to fit the vibe of All Hallows Eve, while still being sophisticated enough to invite any age group to your party. Dressed in traditional Halloween black and orange, these invitations feature bats, a grave stone and a scary skull.

To make the invitations, simply scroll down and read the instructions below. As long as you have a color printer, you can make them! It helps to have a paper cutter, too, but you can always take them to a print shop or copy center to be cut if you don't. I've also provided alternate cutting instructions below.

I hope you enjoy making these free printable Halloween party invitations and that you find them useful. Instructions for Making the Free Halloween Party Invitations

1. Read the Terms of Use below before downloading any images.

2. Download the invitation template you prefer

Click on a Halloween invitation thumbnail in the right column to make a larger version appear. When it appears, double-click on it so an even larger one will open in another window. Then, if you use a Mac, use your mouse to control-click on the image and save it to your hard drive. If you use a PC, use your mouse to right-click on the image to save it.

3. Paste the Halloween invitation artwork into software

These printable invitation templates are the right proportions to fit standard A7 or or A4 envelopes. That means the final cut invitations should be 5" x 7" for A7 or 3 1/2" x 4 7/8" for A4. If you plan to hand them out in person, however, you can make them any size you want.

If you own a publishing program, such as Publisher or Quark, you probably already know how to prepare the art for printing. If you don't happen to have a publishing program, Microsoft Word or another word processing program is a good alternative.

These instructions are for MS Word and will result in one image being placed on a page. If you want more than one on a page, you can achieve that through the use of text boxes or a table. If you're not familiar with them, consult Word's help menu, or read this MS Word tables tutorial or text box tutorial. The text box tutorial doesn't say which Word version it's for, but it will probably get you in the ballpark, no matter which version you have.

To begin, search your hard drive and locate the Halloween invitation artwork you downloaded in step 1, and insert it into a new Word document using MS Word's Picture menu. You can find this in Word 2007 by first clicking the Insert tab and then the Picture button. (If you have another Word version, check the help menu for instructions.) When you click on the Picture button, a pull-down menu will appear that will help you find the template art on your hard drive and paste it into the document.

After placing the art into the document, click the image with your mouse to edit it. You can then size it by pulling on one of the corners with your mouse until the template measures 5" x 7", 3 1/2" x 4 7/8" or any other size you choose to make it. (Be sure to drag the artwork from the corner, not the one of the sides, or the image will become distorted.) It can be hard to tell the exact size just by looking on your computer screen, so just get as close as you can and then print a copy. Measure the boundaries of the image on the printed page with a ruler to check the size, and keep on adjusting and printing until the it's the size you need it to be.

4. Print the Halloween invitations

Once the size is correct, print the invitations using the heaviest card stock that will go through your printer. You should check the maximum thickness before buying the stock. Do this by visiting the printer manufacturer's Web site or reading the printer manual.

5. Cut the invitations

For best results, use a paper cutter or bring the printed invitations to an instant print shop, copy center or office supply store so they can cut them. If you'll be cutting them yourself at home, make sure to look at the measurements on the paper cutter before you cut. If you don't want to use a paper cutter, you can also use a craft or X-acto knife, a ruler and a cutting board. You can also use scissors, although that will probably give you the least favorable results.

For those who think my calendar is off, I'm posting this early so I have time to promote it and get it high up in the search engines by Halloween. :-)
