Instructions for Using the Birthday Invitations
1. Download the birthday invitation you like
Please read the terms of use below before downloading.
To download, choose a thumbnail version of any of the birthday invitation images. When you click on one, it will appear larger.
If you have a PC, just right-click and save the final version of the artwork to your hard drive. If you're a Mac user, control-click the image until you get a pop-up menu that will give you an option to save the file.
2. Paste the art into a word processing document
These printable birthday invitations are 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". They were designed to be printed four at a time on an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet and to fit into A2 envelopes, which are 4 3/8" x 5 3/4". (See the right column to order A2 envelopes from Amazon.com if you don't have any.) But you might have a problem printing four of the designs on one page if they have "bleeds," which means the color background or any part of the design goes right up to the edge of the invitation. Most home printers don't allow for bleeds. So if you want to print one of the designs that bleeds, you can either make the artwork a little smaller, use a larger card stock size or only put two on a sheet.
You can paste the artwork into a word processing document in a variety of ways. If you're going to use just one or two on a page, you can either copy a larger size image from this page and paste it into the document or you can insert it as clip art. For one, two or more on a page, you can also build a table with the number of invitations you want to have on the page and insert the artwork into it or you can insert one image into a text box, size it and copy it into the document as many times as you want.
If you're going to use multiple invitations on a page, make sure to get the first one the exact size you want it before copying and pasting more of them. You don't want them different sizes! A good way to test to make sure the first one is the right size is to put it into the document and print the page. That will let you know whether you need to make it larger or smaller.
Once you have the correct size and you want to paste in the other copies of the invitation artwork, you might want to "butt" them together, meaning that the edge of one invitation is right up against another. That will make them easier to cut after they're printed, because one cut will cut the edges of two invitations.
3. Print the invitations
You'll want to use card stock for these. I advise using the heaviest weight card stock your printer will take. If you don't know what that weight is, I suggest you look it up in your printer manual or on the manufacturer's web site. Keep in mind that if the card stock is too heavy, it won't print or will jam. If it's too light, the invitation will be flimsy.
4. Cut the invitations
Using a paper cutter is the most efficient method for making straight cuts. If you don't have a paper cutter and you don't want to your local office supply store to cut them, you can use a craft knife and a ruler. You can also use scissors, although the edges obviously won't be as straight. If you have to use scissors, some of the invitation designs might look nice if you use decorator-edge scissors that create a pattern, such as zig-zags or waves.
